Abstract

The 1995 Moorea Class, officially titled The Biology and Geomorphology of Tropical Islands, was an undergraduate course through the University of California, Berkeley. The academic program started with four weeks of preparation and lectures at Berkeley and the Bodega Marine Laboratory before the participants moved to Moorea in French Polynesia. The group consisted of fifteen undergraduates, faculty members, and two graduate student instructors. During their nine-week stay at the Gump Biological Research Station, students participated in field trips and focused on original research projects. The course concluded with a December symposium at Berkeley where students presented their findings on topics like coral reef ecology, plant studies, and geomorphology
