Scolari explained life-cycle assessment as 'cradle-to-grave' accounting and showed why seaweed avoids the land, freshwater and fertiliser burdens of crops like corn ethanol. He stressed co-locating biofuel facilities with renewable energy to avoid processing on carbon-intensive diesel grids.
