Abstract
Bailey presented Honu, a pair of three-person, 1,200-metre-rated acrylic-sphere submersibles diving as a buddy pair to democratise access to the mesopelagic zone, which holds roughly 70% of ocean biomass. At about €5,000–8,000 per dive with a minimal crew, Honu pairs luxury tourism with science; the subs are under construction in Alameda with DOER, with a research programme to be formalised in January 2026.
