Abstract

The presenters exposed a data gap whereby the World Database on Protected Areas held only five points and no spatial data for French Polynesia, against their own 252 active features of local stewardship such as rāhui. Citing jurisdictional overlap, land-sea overlap and 'illegibility', Mawyer called for an epistemic shift to redesign blue bioeconomies around place-sensitive, biocultural realities.
